Straight away when you look at this poster it is attracting a fan base of Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen, because fans of them will probably be interested in watching any movie with them included in it (especially if they are main characters of the film) The colours in this poster are dark and pictures are de-saturated, this gives the poster a dark, mysterious atmosphere and compliments the genre of the film well as it's a thriller. The images are also quite soft, which could imply some sort of weakness in the characters and could show that they aren't as strong as they think and their secrecy isn't going to last as long as they think. The positioning of the two characters is quite stereotypical as the man is usually infront and taking control in threatening situations. In this image it almost seems as if the man if protecting the women, whilst she is hiding and worried in the background which illustrates the dominance in this movie and is in control throughout.
The setting of this poster is relative and links well as many of the scenes shown in the trailer include trains and clips in the subway, this also associates well with the title of the movie 'Derailed' as it means things could go off track. By the looks of the trailer, the affair between the two characters ends up badly and causes a lot of damage, therefore this link between the setting of this poster and the story behind the trailer go well together. When looking at the title on the page of the poster you can also notice that not all the letters are in a line, and this positioning of the letters also reinforces how unstable their relationship gets and the problems the affair causes along the way. The positioning of the tagline "they never saw it coming" is placed purposefully above the setting of the train tracks as it connotes the speed at which everything changed and the consequences of their actions 'hit them like a train'. |
